Sketch PAW

Sketching is most people’s introduction to art and so we try to encourage as many people as possible to start, and then continue, to sketch.

Purbeck Arts Club Sketching Programme 2025

Our Members are able to join the Purbeck Arts Club Sketching Programme which run throughout the summer. To participate in these sessions, you must be a member of the Purbeck Arts Club to be covered by their insurance. This programme is covered by their Full Membership Fee, or alternatively, their Summer Membership costs £15 per annum.

(In addition to being able to take part in the Sketching Programme, all Full Members of the Purbeck Arts Club may exhibit up to six paintings, and Summer Members may hang two paintings in each exhibition, subject to their being able to steward).

Previous Members Sketching Programme Activities

Over the years our sketching programme has taken us to some very beautiful local places.

We have been to Durlston Country Park and Castle, Corfe Castle Village, Studland Beach, Tynham Village, Swanage Lifeboat Station and Holme Garden Centre and Gardens to mention just a few. Below is a video of a sketching event at Encombe House, (by kind invitation of Arabella Gaggero).

One of our favourite places to go is RSPB Arne. We had our own sketching tent there for a couple of years, which was wonderful. Have a look at the video below from 2016 to see how we got on.

Rehearsal Sketching

It is very special when the visual artists and performing artists are able to work together and so we try to facilitate this as much as possible by trying to have at least one session of rehearsal sketching in our sketching programme every year.

Sketch PAW 2019 Winning Entry

In 2019 we sold sketchbooks at Rollington Barn and asked you to carry them with you around the festival, and draw and sketch whatever inspired YOU in PAW and Purbeck. We also asked you to show us what you did on Instagram and Facebook by tagging #sketchpaw and #dalerrowney. There was a prize for the submission that best captured the spirt of PAW and this was the winner:

Congratulations to Joanne Martin!
