Artist’s Statement:

“Rehan Zia holds a practice-led PhD in high dynamic range landscape photography and has been awarded the Fellowship of the Royal Photographic Society (FRPS) – the highest level of RPS distinctions – as well as the Fellowship of the Royal Society for Arts (FRSA).

Visual storytelling lies at the heart of Rehan’s creative practice, teaching, and research. He has a passion for telling stories through light, form, and colour, creating images that lie on the cusp of fantasy and realism. Growing up with the impressions of the British landscape based on the tales of Robin Hood and King Arthur, and, the paintings of Constable and Turner, Rehan still visualises the British landscape based on his childhood memories. These fantasy environments contain a sense of escapism, fantasy, and romance.

Rehan crafts the look of his images using multiple exposures; high dynamic range photography uses multiple different exposures to allow for a greater range of scene tones capture. These scene details and the look can only be revealed through the camera and cannot be experienced by the naked eye. The tones, colour, exposure, and contrast have been enhanced to create a look that that lies on the cusp of realism and fantasy.”
