PYA 2022

The PYA workshops took a different form this year as they focused on three main projects: Banners for Purbeck Young Musicians concert in the Mowlem Theatre, led by Sophie Jenkins, Puppetry/Movement workshops, led by Autin Dance Theatre and the Platinum Jubilee mural for Swanage seafront, led by Dawn Clark.

PYA Banners

The image below shows the banners in use at the Purbeck Young Musicians concert in the Mowlem Theatre. The performers are Miro Treharne and the Swanage Big Band who opened the show.

We are intending to create more banners yearly until we fill the backdrop!

Out of the Deep Blue

Following a number of creative puppetry and dance workshops in local schools led by the Autin Dance Theatre, Eko arrived on Saturday 4 June and performed in Swanage and at Rollington.

‘Out of the Deep Blue’ is an outdoor physical theatre spectacular featuring a giant puppet, five puppeteers and a female dancer. Set in the not too distant future it tells the magical story of Eko, a sea giant, who rises from the deep ocean and encounters, on the shore, a courageous little girl called Violet. These two beings – an ancient creature, a young girl – offer us their stories: an impactful dialogue around our earth’s climate emergency, told through dance, movement and masterful puppeteering. Ideal for children and families, but a story about the power of understanding that speaks to the world at large, that all will enjoy.

PAW is delighted to have worked with the Mowlem Theatre on this event, and would like to thank Swanage Town Council and the Dorset Council Culture and Community Fund for their support.
