Artist’s Statement:

“The Burngate Purbeck Stone Centre is a small charitable trust that supports the sharing of skills and the advancement of knowledge associated with Purbeck Stone. Burngate specialises in teaching stone carving for people of all ages and abilities, with courses focusing on creative carving and sculpture, the traditional skills of masonry and the discipline of lettercutting.
Our exhibition during Purbeck Arts Weeks features abstract and figurative sculpture, lettering arts, bird baths and bowls created by our top-rated tutors and friends. These are all available to buy at a variety of prices. Our exhibitors will be carving onsite throughout and will be happy to answer your questions. There will also be courses running in our workshops – visit our website to enrol.
Join us on Friday the 31st May for a day of poetry and creative writing with John Hegley and Sarah Acton, which takes the unique landscape and geology of Purbeck as inspiration. There’s also an informative guided walk of local quarry sites led by Burngate staff on Thursday 30th May.
Enrol on one of our courses and find out first-hand what makes Purbeck stone and the Purbeck landscape it comes from so special. Suitable for families, friends and individuals.”
