Artist’s Statement:

“treeoftheweek is a result of encounters with incredible trees that occur during my work as a consulting forester. I have included images of accidental finds, but also of trees that I have actively sought. The motivation for the project is spurred on by a desire to record what might be lost to the gathering pace of environmental change.

The selected mediums are brushed aluminium and birch plywood. The former contrasts with the organic subject matter while giving the piece a crisp contemporary feel. The reflective quality of the metal also allows the artwork to shift with changing light. Plywood is chosen as it provides a tangible link to the trees themselves, becoming warmer and gaining greater depth with age and exposure to sunlight – David Browning.”
