Artist’s Statement:

“I’m excited to be showing a retrospective of my late father Stan Davis’ paintings. He was a highly respected Swanage artist who exhibited widely between 1982 and 2010.
He was well known for his large abstract representations of Purbeck scenes that he struggled to produce regarding as non-figurative as opposed to abstract.
To quote my father ‘As with all painting it is a process of analysis and constant alteration to arrive at a meaningful result. Not having pictorial or illustration qualities to fall back on the painting can only work on a painterly level. Experimentation is crucial and I try to avoid reliance on a ridge technique’.
Martyn Brewster commented that ‘Stan was an enthusiastic painter in his own right, making vibrant abstract works and very involved in the Purbeck art scene'”.
