Artist’s Statement:

“””My wonky ceramics are mostly inspired by my favourite place – the seas and Jurassic Coastline of Purbeck in Dorset where I go walking as often as possible, filling my pockets with fossils, bits of sea washed glass and pebbles from the beaches. I then add these items to my ceramics to create links to the sea. I mostly make fish and pots that are ‘tossed by the sea’ or inspired by nature.
My most recent collection: The Goddess Collection, is inspired by ‘The Five Marys’ – Neolithic burial mounds that stand at the entrance to Chaldon Herring village and can be seen from our garden, silhouetted against the sunset. As old as the hills, one of the Mary’s was excavated and it is said that two seated horned figures were found to be inside. Inspired by the discovery, I have created a series of statues of ‘The Marys’, in the guise of faceless nature goddesses and their Cernunnos counterparts, to stand protection over us, as The Marys stand over Chaldon Herring. I also make goddess themed shrines for meditation and well being, in addition to imagined Neolithic ‘grave goods’ that perhaps might be inside the remaining four unexcavated Marys!”””
